We are concerned that a scam offering fake investments such as term deposits in the name of HSBC is targeting New Zealanders. A similar warning about fake HSBC ESG bonds was issued by the FMA in March 2023, but investment scams using the bank’s name have continued. Investors have been contacted by people promoting fake HSBC fixed term deposits after putting contact details into an interest rate comparison website. One victim was forwarded prospectus material for HSBC investments. After supposedly completing anti-money laundering checks - to help legitimise the fraud - they were instructed to deposit funds into a non-HSBC bank account under the guise of a “cooling off” period. We recommend New Zealanders exercise extreme caution when providing personal details to investment comparison websites. Entity Name: www.hsbcnz.com Website: www.hsbcnz.com Email: [email protected] |
