11th Joint IOSCO/FSI Seminar on Trading Book Issues and Market Infrastructure, Madrid, Spain, 16-18 November 2016
The annual IOSCO/FSI Seminar on Trading Book Issues and Market Infrastructure was jointly hosted by IOSCO and the Financial Stability Institute (FSI) from 16-18 November 2016 in Madrid, Spain.
The seminar was free of charge and provided up-to-date information concerning selected regulatory and supervisory issues to staff from central banks, supervisory authorities and securities commissions. The seminar focused on recent work undertaken by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and IOSCO in the field of regulation and supervision of trading books in banks and related market infrastructures for trading activities.
Seminar on the IOSCO Principles, La Paz, Bolivia, 10-11 November 2016
The Autoridad de Supervisión del Sistema Financiero of Bolivia (ASFI) organized a 2-day seminar on the IOSCO Principles: "IOSCO: Principios para la Regulación del Mercado de Valores". The seminar, which was held in Spanish took place on 10-11 November 2016 in La Paz, Bolivia.
IOSCO/PIFS-Harvard Law School Global Certificate Program for Regulators of Securities Markets, Madrid, Spain, 17-28 October 2016 & Cambridge, MA, United States, 4-9 December 2016
IOSCO and the Program on International Financial Systems at Harvard Law School (PIFS-HLS) jointly developed a two-phase program aimed at offering IOSCO members an executive education program that was exclusively tailored for regulators of securities markets. Attendees had up to three years to complete both phases of the Global Certificate Program. Successful attendees were awarded a joint certificate of participation issued by IOSCO and PIFS-Harvard Law School. Also, IOSCO members could attend any part of the program on a non-certificate basis.
Phase I consisted of three components: online learning materials; an in-person module on regulation; and an in-person module on compliance. The in-person modules were conducted at IOSCO Headquarters in Madrid (Spain) from October 17-28, 2016, and covered the fundamentals and intricacies of securities regulation and compliance. The two week-long sessions were delivered primarily by current or former securities regulators.
Phase II consisted of a one week-long in-person module that was conducted on campus at the Harvard Law School in Cambridge (Massachusetts, US) from December 4-9, 2016. The one week-long session examined current and future regulatory challenges and emerging issues and was delivered by leading academics, securities regulators and leading public policy makers.
9th Edition IOSCO AMCC Training Seminar, Chicago, US, 27-28 September 2016
The IOSCO Affiliate Members Consultative Committee held its 9th annual Training Seminar on September 27 to 28, 2016, in Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. The seminar, kindly hosted by the National Futures Association (NFA), was open to all IOSCO members. The previous year´s edition in Zurich attracted more than 140 participants from 50 jurisdictions.
The program featured panels, case studies and breakout sessions on “Implementing IOSCO Principles”.
Topics for the 2016 edition of the Training Seminar included:
- key elements of a sound risk-based supervision system,
- tools and resources for enforcement and investigations,
- using data and data analytics to support regulatory action,
- recent case studies in market surveillance,
- latest developments in cybersecurity and the role of regulators in dealing with this critical issue, and
- successful innovative approaches to retail investor protection.
2016 IFIE-IOSCO Global Investor Education Conference, Istanbul, Turkey, 12-14 June 2016
The 8th Joint Global Investor Education Conference of the International Forum for Investor Education (IFIE) and IOSCO was held from 12-14 June 2016 in Istanbul, Turkey, and was kindly hosted by the Turkish Capital Markets Association. The theme of the conference was "Global FC/IE Strategies and Implementation: Meeting Needs and Bridging Gaps".
IOSCO Asia-Pacific Regional Training Seminar, Mumbai, India, 3-5 February 2016
The IOSCO Asia Pacific Regional Training Seminar on “Enforcement, Cooperation and the IOSCO MMoU” took place in Mumbai, India, from 3 to 5 February 2016. This 3-day training seminar was organized under the aegis of the IOSCO Pilot Capacity Building Program and kindly hosted by the National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), the education, research and training institute of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
IOSCO AMERC Training Seminar, Doha, Qatar, 26-28 January 2016
The IOSCO AMERC Training Seminar on "Risk Based Supervision and SME Financing Through Capital Markets" took place in Doha, Qatar, from 26 to 28 January 2016. This 3-day training seminar was organized under the aegis of the IOSCO Pilot Capacity Building Program and kindly hosted by the Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA). The first two days of the program were on "Risk Based Supervision" and the third day covered "SME Financing Through Capital Markets".
