he FMA recommends caution for investors who may have dealt with Tricom Capital Management, Alpha-securities Ltd, Wader Securities, and WCT Investments PTE Ltd. We are concerned these entities may be operating an ongoing investment scam where investors are offered fictitious Initial Public Offering (IPO) shares in companies and then asked to make additional payments to enable them to be traded or sold. We have received a report from a New Zealand resident who is unable to sell their shares or recover money invested despite having made the additional payments. These entities are not registered on the Financial Service Providers Register or authorised to provide financial services in New Zealand. The FMA warns investors to be wary of unsolicited communication asking them to buy shares or other financial products or put their money into offshore firms.
